Professional Standards

Open Mind Therapy aims to make its professional status, scope and limits clear rather than relying on vague assurances.

Professional registration

Ricardo Dans is a psychotherapist, Registered Member MBACP and registrant on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, registration number 411264. The practice works within the professional standards applying to BACP members and registrants.

Clinical orientation and scope

Open Mind Therapy provides adult psychotherapy. The practice is depth-oriented, integrative and relational, centred on psychodynamic work and informed by selected DBT skills, somatic-informed awareness and work that strengthens self-direction and adaptive action.

The Open Mind Method is an evidence-informed organising framework used within psychotherapy. It is not presented as a medical treatment, diagnostic system or proven standalone treatment model.

Professional boundaries

Open Mind Therapy does not provide emergency or crisis care, medical diagnosis, medication advice, a full DBT programme, formal standalone somatic therapy or specialist trauma treatment unless separately trained, scoped and evidenced. Outcomes are not guaranteed. The practice currently works with adults only.

Supervision and continuing development

Clinical supervision and continuing professional development are standard parts of the practice. Work may be discussed confidentially in supervision to support safe and reflective practice, with identifying information limited where reasonably possible.

Insurance

Open Mind Therapy Limited holds current professional insurance for behavioural therapy, counselling and psychotherapy in the United Kingdom. The current policy period runs to 16 December 2026. Insurance scope is reviewed when services or delivery arrangements materially change.

Clinical records

Konfidens is the principal practice-management and clinical-record system. Records are intended to be accurate, proportionate, clinically relevant and clear enough to explain clinical decisions if needed later. Adult clinical records are normally retained for seven years after final client contact, subject to documented exceptions.

Public claims

Public descriptions use careful terms such as “DBT-informed”, “somatic-informed” and “trauma-informed” rather than implying services that are not being provided. Open Mind Therapy avoids cure claims, guaranteed results and presenting the Open Mind Method as externally validated when that has not been established.
