Frequently asked questions
Clear answers about starting, format, fees, confidentiality and the therapeutic frame.
How do I start therapy?
The usual first step is a free 15-minute introductory call. Where none of the listed times are suitable, email info@openmindtherapy.org with your general availability and whether you prefer online or in-person therapy.
What happens in the introductory call?
I use this brief, no-obligation conversation to hear what has brought you to therapy, answer practical questions and consider whether working together may be a suitable fit. It is not a therapy session or clinical assessment.
What happens in the initial assessment?
The initial assessment is a 90-minute appointment costing £150. I will ask about what brings you to therapy, relevant history, current circumstances, previous support, risk or safeguarding needs, goals and practical arrangements.
What are the session fees?
Psychotherapy is £100 for 50 minutes or £160 for 90 minutes, online or in person. Supported-fee psychotherapy is £80 for 50 minutes, online only and subject to limited availability and suitability.
What is the cancellation policy?
At least 72 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule. Sessions cancelled later, or missed without notice, may be charged at the full fee.
Do you work weekly or fortnightly?
Therapy normally begins weekly where clinically appropriate. Frequency is agreed during assessment and reviewed as therapy progresses. Fortnightly work may be agreed where clinically suitable.
Do you offer online and in-person therapy?
I offer online therapy and in-person appointments in South London by arrangement. Format and suitability are discussed during the introductory call and assessment. The full in-person address is provided to booked clients.
What is The Open Mind Method?
The Open Mind Method is Open Mind Therapy’s proprietary, evidence-informed organising framework. It organises therapy around Psyche, Soma and Agency, with Integration connecting insight, present state and action. An Open Mind is the desired internal configuration: enough coherence, safety, appropriate permeability, strengthening and spaciousness to allow flexible choice—not perfect balance or permanent calm.
Is therapy confidential?
Therapy is confidential, but confidentiality is not absolute. Information may need to be shared where there is serious risk of harm, a safeguarding concern, legal requirement, court order or another clear professional duty.
Do you offer crisis support?
No. Open Mind Therapy is not an emergency or crisis service. Messages are not monitored continuously. See the Crisis & Emergency Support page for urgent-support routes.
